Trane Introduces New Airfinity™ Rooftops with Adaptive Frequency™ Drive

New Trane rooftop air sourced heat pumps are equipped with variable speed technology and intelligent control to adapt cooling and heating outputs to building’s demand.

Brussels, September 16, 2020 - Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Trane Technologies, announced today the latest additions to its Airfinity™ portfolio of rooftop air-to=air heat pumps. The new units feature Adaptive Frequency™ Drive variable speed compressors and are available in capacities from 20 to 65 kW, addressing the needs of small to medium size commercial or industrial buildings.

Thanks to the Adaptive Frequency™ Drive technology, the units deliver improved part load efficiency, with Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) up to 5.57 kW/kW and Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) up to 3.38 kW/kW. All models exceed Ecodesign Directive Tier 2 (2021) requirements. Adapting seamlessly to the building’s demand, the units deliver reduced energy consumption, tighter temperature control and better comfort for the occupants. The rooftops are also adequate for storage areas and warehouses, providing a stable indoor environment.

To further increase sustainability of the buildings’ operations, Trane Airfinity™ rooftops come with additional energy-saving features like adaptive airflow with variable speed fans, free cooling and heat recovery. Compatibility with Trane Tracer Concierge™ building management system allows facility managers to manage multiple rooftops remotely using a tablet or a smartphone, adapting the comfort levels to actual building needs.

Dominique Silva, product manager at Trane Europe: With the growing urbanization rate and increasing number of people spending more time indoors, climate control and air quality become more and more important. Rooftop units with their compact design and multifunctional capabilities are particularly suitable for buildings in urban areas, where space is usually a constraint. With these new additions to the portfolio, Trane is extending the range down to 20kW, giving building owners more choice and flexibility. We now offer a series of units up to 300kW featuring the same controller and capable of working together.

The Airfinity™ portfolio compiles outdoor plug-and-play, all-in-one cooling, heating and ventilation units designed to save installers’ time and reduce first and ongoing maintenance costs. The performance of the units was carefully tested and validated in the Trane state-of-the-art testing facility in Epinal, France. The industry-leading test facility is approved to test HVAC products in accordance to the highest industry standards, including for example, the European Standard EN 14511, and Eurovent requirements.

Some key features of the Trane Airfinity™ rooftops with Adaptive Frequency™ Drive:

20 to 65 kW heating and cooling capacity
3,860 to 12,000 cubic meter/hour airflow range
Exceeds Ecodesign Tier 2 thresholds that will go into effect in July 2021
Free cooling operation in summer and heat recovery option for increased efficiency and sustainable operations
Heat pump operation down to minus 10 degrees Celsius outdoor ambient air and hybrid mode using an auxiliary heater for colder climates
No energy consumption from additional piping systems and pump networks.

Trane Airfinity™ aligns with Trane Technologies’ 2030 sustainability aspirations, and the commitment to reduce customers’ carbon emissions by one gigaton – equivalent to the annual emissions of Italy, France and the United Kingdom combined.
