Trane Extends Sintesis™ Balance CMAF Multi-Pipe Portfolio to Include Smaller Capacity Units

The full range of 80 kW to 640 kW multi-pipe units with full heat recovery and low-GWP refrigerant is set to accelerate the transition to low-carbon buildings and reduce reliance on fossil fuel heating.

Brussels, Belgium, Oct. 25, 2024 - Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor climate control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, announced the extension of its Sintesis™ Balance CMAF portfolio of air-sourced multi-pipe units. The range now offers capacities from 80 kW to 640 kW, delivering simultaneous heating and cooling by leveraging renewable energy and full heat recovery. Repurposing energy and clearing the pathway to significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels for heating, the units also feature R454B, a low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant for lower environmental impact, ensuring future-proof compliance with tightening environmental regulations across Europe.

“At Trane, we understand that achieving net-zero targets demands a shift in how we approach energy use in buildings and processes. By integrating heating and cooling, we can capture and reuse waste heat, reducing fossil fuel use for heating,” said Erik van Oossanen, product management leader for Trane in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We need to understand that there is free heat all around us. By using recovered thermal energy to produce hot water, building owners can dramatically reduce their expenditures and contribute to decarbonisation goals.”

Thermal Management & Energy Recovery
Most buildings today operate separate cooling and heating systems, leading to inefficiencies and unnecessary burning of fossil fuels. Trane’s Sintesis™ Balance CMAF units integrate these thermal circuits within a single multi-pipe heat pump, optimising the use of energy and reducing the overall carbon footprint of the HVAC system. Trane’s CMAF systems recover and repurpose heat generated during the cooling cycle which would otherwise be rejected to the atmosphere, eliminating the need for fossil-fuel-based heating systems. This integrated approach to heating and cooling enhances building efficiency, allowing owners to reduce operational costs while significantly improving the sustainability of their operations.

With market-leading Coefficient of Performance (COP) up to 3.5 and Total Efficiency Ratio (TER) up to 8.3, the extended Trane’s Sintesis™ Balance CMAF portfolio delivers high performance in comfort applications such as hospitals, hotels, theatres, and office buildings.

Key Features of the Sintesis™ Balance CMAF Units:
Trane Adaptive Refrigerant System™ (TARS): This proprietary technology optimises refrigerant charge in each operating mode, ensuring maximum performance and efficiency in both part load and full load conditions. It also enables a wider heating operating map, allowing for hot water delivery of up to 60°C.
More Stable Temperature and Capacity Control: The four-compressor design, spread over two refrigerant circuits provides more part-load steps, ensuring consistent performance even in variable load conditions. This results in greater temperature stability and improved comfort for end-users.
• Trane Tracer Symbio™800 controller: featuring advanced algorithms to ensure smooth, reliable operation with the low cost of ownership. In addition, it also offers six arbitration choices to optimize performances in each application.

The Sintesis™ Balance CMAF units with R454B are available across EMEA, Australia and New Zealand, where demand for low-GWP, high energy-efficient solutions is rapidly growing.

The development of the Trane Sintesis Balance CMAF aligns with Trane Technologies' commitment to sustainable innovation. Providing sustainable cooling and heating solutions is part of Trane Technologies’ overall approach to reducing carbon emissions in the industries and markets they serve. It helps advance the 2030 Sustainability Commitments, including the Gigaton Challenge to reduce customer greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion metric tons.
