Trane Unveils Next-Generation of Small Heat Pumps with Higher Efficiency and Wider Operating Map

New generation of Trane Cube air-to-water heat pumps (CXC models) feature advanced inverter technology, low-GWP R454B refrigerant, and compact design for superior performance and easy installation.

Brussels, Belgium, March 14, 2025 - Trane®, a leading global provider of indoor climate control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies, has announced the launch of Trane Cube CXC, the next generation of compact air-to-water heat pumps. Engineered to feature a state-of-the-art inverter scroll compressor and low global warming potential (GWP) R454B refrigerant, the new range offers an A2L alternative to R290-based Trane Leaf heat pumps, and covers a heating capacity of 23 to 59 kW.

The combination of high performance and wide operating map makes the Trane Cube CXC an ideal option for replacing outdated fossil fuel heating systems. The units deliver up to 45°C leaving water at -15°C outdoor temperature and can produce sanitary hot water in the summer, with leaving water temperatures up to 60°C at outdoor air temperatures between +5°C and +35°C, and +55°C at ambient temperatures between -2°C and 46°C.

”The need for sustainable and efficient heating solutions has never been greater. With increasing energy costs and environmental concerns, the awareness and demand for reliable heat pump technology are on the rise,” said Erik van Oossanen, product management leader for Trane in Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Trane’s product development is at the forefront of meeting this demand for non-fossil-fueled heating. The Trane Cube CXC is the latest addition to our widest in the market range of low-GWP thermal management solutions.”

Advancing Low-Carbon Heating
Trane CXC heat pumps, which combine advanced inverter technology and low-GWP R454B refrigerant in a compact design, represent advancement in decarbonising comfort heating in public buildings and commercial facilities. Their small footprint and integrated components make them easier to install and maintain, providing a versatile and sustainable solution supporting the decarbonisation of the built environment.

Key features of Trane CXC models include:
Inverter technology: The integrated inverter technology optimises energy use by adjusting the compressor speed according to the heating or cooling demand, resulting in higher efficiency levels. These fans ensure optimized airflow management, contributing to the overall efficiency and quiet operation of the system.
High performance and efficiency: With seasonal space heating energy efficiency exceeding 154% and a coefficient of performance (COP) reaching up to 4.04, Trane CXC heat pumps qualify for financial incentives and energy-saving programs.
Low-GWP refrigerant R454B: The adoption of R454B refrigerant, with its low global warming potential, aligns with global sustainability goals while maintaining high performance standards.
Wide operating map: The CXC heat pumps offer an extensive operating range, capable of delivering up to 45°C leaving water temperature even in challenging outdoor conditions of -15°C. This wide operating map ensures reliable performance throughout the year, including the ability to produce sanitary hot water during summer.
Integrated design for ease of installation: Featuring an integrated buffer tank and pump package, the new design significantly reduces the system’s footprint and height, simplifying the installation process. The units can handle external static pressure up to 200 kPa, enhancing their adaptability to various installation environments.

The development of the new CXC heat pumps aligns with Trane Technologies' commitment to sustainable innovation. Providing sustainable cooling and heating solutions is part of Trane Technologies’ overall approach to reducing carbon emissions in the industries and markets they serve. It helps advance the 2030 Sustainability Commitments, including the Gigaton Challenge to reduce customer greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion metric tons.
