Trane Expands Portfolio of Thermal Solutions for Data Centres and Mission Critical Applications

Addition of CRAH and fan wall units enhance Trane’s position as a holistic thermal management solution provider, offering its customers a seamless experience.

Brussels, Belgium, August 26, 2025 - Trane®, a leading global thermal systems and services provider and a brand of Trane Technologies, has introduced a new range of air cooling solutions designed specifically for data centres. The new ranges of Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH) and Fan Wall Units (FWU) are designed to support high-density applications with enhanced energy efficiency and operational flexibility.

Trane CRAH units are available in multiple configurations, delivering up to 260 kW of cooling capacity per unit. Trane’s Fan Wall units offer an even wider range up to 600 kW of cooling and a high airflow, making the system suitable for a broad range of co-location and hyperscale data centre environments. To ensure a reliable and highly efficient performance at all operating conditions, both ranges are equipped with variable speed fans and heat exchangers with hydrophilic coating as standard.

The portfolio expansion offers a new value proposition for customers, allowing them to choose a seamlessly coordinated system of airside solutions and chillers, all from a single source. These airside solutions can be combined with Trane’s renown Sintesis™ air-cooled chillers or Trane XStream™ water-cooled chillers. Both platforms are available in mega-watt sizes with industry-leading efficiencies, operating with HFO refrigerants with an ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

"Leveraging Trane’s cooling technology expertise and innovation, this solution addresses the growing demand for reliable, scalable, and energy-efficient cooling in mission-critical facilities like data centres,” said Lauri Salmia, Applied Portfolio Manager at Trane. “With Trane’s high-performance chiller technologies seamlessly-paired with Trane’s air-handling solutions, data centre operators receive a scalable system that reduces energy demand, enhances uptime and can be adapted to evolving infrastructure needs.”

Modular solutions configurable to any data centre architecture
Trane CRAH units are available in multiple configurations to adapt to any kind of installation, featuring an optimized housing design for highly efficient airflow. This combination ensures maximum cooling capacity in a minimal footprint, reduced power consumption, and high Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) and optimized Airflow Efficiency Ratio (AER). The modular design ensures efficient space utilisation and operational reliability through redundancy and cooling capacity can be expanded by adding additional modules.

Trane Fan Wall Units provide consistent temperature control for higher racks and larger heat loads, particularly for hyperscale data centres. Their modular design allows for high airflow and maximum energy efficiency, making them ideal for large server rooms.

Trane CRAH and Fan Wall Units use the same key components to ensure optimal energy efficiency and operational safety. This includes pressure-independent valves and EC fans with integrated electronic filters. Moreover, units come equipped with integrated proprietary control technology for precise regulation based on supply air, return air, room air, or server inlet temperature.

Manufactured in Europe, supported by the industry’s widest service network
All systems are manufactured in Trane Technologies’ facilities in Europe according to the highest quality standards and with competitive lead times, thanks to investments in manufacturing capabilities. The air handling technology incorporates research and development from AL-KO Airtech, specialists in air handling and extraction systems, acquired by Trane Technologies in 2022. Trane customers benefit from a highly trained service network providing preventative maintenance, rapid-response technical support, and optimised lifecycle performance across various applications.
